State Court Solicitor
The State Court Solicitor is primarily responsible for the prosecution of all criminal misdemeanor offenses filed in the State Court of Stephens County.
State Court cases include the handling of all misdemeanor warrants initiated in the Magistrate's Office; all traffic citations issued by the Stephens County Sheriff's Department and the Georgia State Patrol; other citations issued by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and Stephens County Animal Control; and other violations cited by the college and public school campus police. Cases are also transferred to this court from the district attorney's office, municipal courts and the Stephens County Magistrate Court.
Some of the most common offenses prosecuted by the Solicitor General's Office include crimes of domestic violence, driving/boating under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, misdemeanor drug possession, speeding citations, bad checks, and thefts involving property or services valued at less than $500 ($300 in the case of shoplifting).
