The staff of the Finance Department continually strives to render its services in a professional manner. The Finance Department consists of four people on staff and serves County management, along with its various departments and agencies, by performing the many financial and accounting functions required in a proficient and timely manner and in compliance with Federal, State and County laws and regulations.
Financial administration encompasses numerous areas of expertise and requires the efficient performance of many, varied duties and activities by the Finance Department staff. In addition to the General Fund, which is the operating fund of the county government, the Finance Department also performs all accounting functions for 9 special revenue funds, 4 capital projects funds and an enterprise fund.
The Finance Department is responsible for revenue collection, procurement, accounts payable and disbursement processing, payroll, benefits, budgeting, cash management, general accounting, financial reporting, preparing for annual audits, debt management and receptionist to the Stephens County Board of Commissioner’s office.
The Finance Department utilizes Tailored Business Systems Governmental Software for their financial package. The County of Stephens received an unqualified opinion on its financial statements from its auditors, Mauldin & Jenkins, CPAs, LLC for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2012. The auditors did not identify any deficiencies in internal control over financial reporting that they considered to be a material weakness.
